I have to say, when you have a product with a grammatically incorrect name, you immediately imagine it won't be much of anything, as I found with Impressionism and It's Sources. It was boring. It consists of a bunch of pictures of impressionist paintings, which you can arrange by artist, date, name, medium, or school. They come up as thumbnails, which you can click on to enlarge and also get a pop-up that tells the details and perhaps even a biography of the artist. I don't think anyone who doesn't know about the Impressionist Art movement would learn much from this CD, although there is an essay (rather long one) that has links to paintings and artists, but just scrolling through the thumbnails was confusing to me. Also, at least on this computer, the quality of the thumbnails is quite poor. Also, there is absolutely no interaction -- no trivia, no tests, no videos, etc. |

Once you get the hang of the program it's easy; you can call up thumbnail photos by artist, date, title, school, or medium, and then simply click on the thumbnail to zoom in. I used the Help button to find out how to move around. There are no support materials. |

| Strengths
The only strength I see to this CD is all the pieces of Impressionist art it includes; I suppose if you wanted to create your own catalogue of favorite pieces/artists it would be helpful, or perhaps to use it as a study guide. |
Areas for Improvement
Boring, boring boring!!! Poor quality of thumbnails, no interaction, no video, some audio (musical pieces to accompany your browsing), but on the whole it is boring. I would not recommend this CD, even for an art history student. It would appear that the grammatical error in the name test is a good one to determine the quality of the CD. |
