My name is Andrew Lotto and I’m an assistant professor in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and Psychology at The University of Arizona.  My research interests lie in the perception of complex sounds such as speech and music.  Currently, I am directing projects that examine how people learn the sounds of a 2nd language and how one’s native language can interfere with this learning; investigate the ability of listener’s to “tune” their perception to particular characteristics of a speaker (e.g., understand someone with a foreign accent or disordered speech); and study how the design of cochlear implants and hearing aids can affect the ability of listeners to understand speech in complex listening environments.
