The University of Arizona hosted the 6th annual ACNS conference on January 4th-6th, 2012.

 

Invited speakers included Bruce Berg, Christopher Braun, Christopher Brown, Suzanne Curtin, Fred Dick, Kimberly Fenn, Alexander Francis, Oded Ghitza, Lori Holt, Julie Liss, Andrew Lotto, Robert Lutfi, Bob McMurray, Howard Nusbaum, Aniruddh Patel, Mark Pit, Arthur Samuel, Brad Story, Neal Viemeister, Stephen Wilson, William Yost, and Jason Zevin.

 

The conference consisted of 23 presentations on a variety of topics typical for ACNS ranging from the multiple hair cell systems of fish to the role of cortical rythms in speech perception.

The University of Arizona hosted the 5th annual ACNS conference on January 6th-7th, 2011.

 

Invited speakers included Tom Bever, Chris Braun, Chris Brown, Suzanne Curtin, Huanping Dai, Michael Dorman, Leah Fabiano-Smith, Alex Francis, Kalim Gonzales, Julie Liss, Philip Loizou, Andrew Lotto, Bob Lutfi, Bob McMurray, Brad Story, Natasha Warner, Stephen Wilson, and Bill Yost.

 

A variety of topics were discussed this year including the history of artificial speech, segmentation strategies, premotor cortex, electric-acoustic hearing, intelligibility remediation, the distinction between cognition and neuroscience, accent change in bilinguals, statistical learning, the perception of reduced speech, sound source identification and localization, the evolution of hearing in fish, variability in speech perception, as well as individual differences in auditory perception.

The University of Arizona hosted the 3rd annual Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience Society (ACNS, formerly ACSS) conference on January 9-10.  In addition to a number of talks and discussions, this year’s conference included a poster session.

 

Invited Speakers included Tom Christensen, Suzanne Curtin, Michael Dorman, Greg Hickok, Lori Holt, Julie Liss, Andrew Lotto, Bob Lutfi, Edwin Maas, Andrea Pittman, Brad Story, Arty Samuel, Lynn Werner, and Bill Yost.

 

The conference consisted of 4 sessions; “The Sound of Music-Without the Nazis, Lessons From A Lesser Sense-Vision, Foundations of Speech Communication by Children, & Processes, Representations and Constraints in Auditory Adaptation/Learning.”

The University of Arizona hosted the 2nd annual ACSS conference on January 11th-12th, 2008.  The conference (co-organized by U of A and ASU) was a two day event this year.

 

Invited speakers included Doctors Kate Bunton, Tom Christensen, Randy Diehl, Michael Dorman, Alex Francis, Lori Holt, Julie Liss, Andrew Lotto, Bob Lutfi, Brad Story, and Bill Yost. 

 

Discussion topics included Probabilistic Perception & Cue Weighting, Should we Pay Attention to Attention? Relating Speech Perception to Spoken Language, as well as a Motor Theory debate.

The University of Arizona hosted the first ever ACSS conference on January 8th.  The conference (co-organized by U of A and ASU) was a one day event, from 9:30am until 5:00pm consisting of a series of nine 30-minute talks.

 

Invited speakers discussed relationships between speech perception and production, statistical learning, models of lexical access, cochlear implants, and electrophysiology.
