Professor Alfie and his daughter Cecilia in Florence in March 2004
I am a professor of Italian in the Department of French and Italian at the University of Arizona.
I teach the Italian language at all levels, from introductory, to intermediate, to advanced. I also teach courses on Italian culture and literature.
In Spring 2008, I was honored to be given one of four Distinguished Teaching Awards from the UA College of Humanities. The nomination required a "statement of teaching philosophy," which is more fleshed-out than the statement attached to this website. You can read the "statement of teaching philosophy" here.
I also write a blog about the importance of the humanities.
