I am an historian of cultural and foreign relations history. I am completing my doctoral dissertation on Mexican relations with Latin American countries during the presidency of Lázaro Cárdenas (1934-1940). In it I investige how Cárdenas projected a revolutionary image of Mexico to other Latin American nations, both to gain support for his domestic projects and to obtain a leadership position in Latin America. I pay particular attention to the Mexican government's use of cultural diplomacy in achieving these foreign policy goals.
