NAME
mathematica - Mathematica system for X
SYNOPSIS
mathematica
DESCRIPTION
The mathematica command runs the full Mathematica system
including the notebook front end under X.
Mathematica is an integrated system for technical
computation, with extensive numerical, symbolic, graphical,
programming, and interfacing capabilities.
mathematica starts the Mathematica notebook front end, which
calls the Mathematica kernel when computations need to be
performed.
The notebook front end supports Mathematica notebook
documents. Notebook documents can contain text, graphics,
and executable Mathematica input. Shift-Return is normally
used to evaluate Mathematica input. The first evaluation in
a session usually requires starting the kernel, and will
therefore be slower.
On initialization, Mathematica Reads application-specific
resources from the file XMathematica. A XMathematica file
in your home directory will override any system-wide
XMathematica file.
OPTIONS
-cleanStart
Tells the front end to ignore caches stored in the
user's home directory.
-copyright
Gives the current version number of the front end.
-help
Prints a listing of all available command line options.
-mathlink
Causes the front end to work in MathLink mode.
-nosingleLaunch
Allows multiple front ends to be running at the same
time.
-preferencesDirectory
Allows you to specify the location where preferences
are stored. By default this is set to
~/.Mathematica/3.0.
-printCommand
Takes one argument, which should be a shell command to
send files to the printer, such as lpr or lp. This
command will appear in the Print dialog box.
-pureKeys
Prevents manufacturer keycodes from being modified by
anything except the Shift key. For example, some
systems may have Control-[6] map to the onequarter
keysym, and this will not work with the X front end.
-querySingleLaunch
Causes the front end to ask the user to verify whether
only one front end should run when multiple Mathematica
commands have been given.
-singleLaunch
Allows only one copy of the front end to exist per
DISPLAY setting.
-topDirectory
Specifies the directory where Mathematica is installed,
typically /usr/local/mathematica.
FILES
File locations are determined at installation time, or when
the Mathematica distribution CD-ROM is mounted.
Mathematica requires that special fonts be installed.
