SSH - the Secure
Shell

SSH is the required way to connect with the U-System. SSH uses encryption
to prevent eavesdroppers from reading information, such as your password,
from the network. All SSH-type software allows for secure communication,
replacing the vulnerable utilities like telnet, rlogin, ftp
and rcp. You can find free SSH software at the following places:
- Web:
A web-based SSH client can be accessed at http://u.arizona.edu.
It requires Java
support in your browser but it allows secure connection and file
transport to u.arizona.edu without having to download extra
software.
- Windows:
- PuTTY a link for the download can be found on the
Sitelicense page.
This new version uses SSH v.2 as default.
- WinSCP for file transfers. Also found on the
Sitelicense page.
- Macintosh:
- Mac OS X Comes with command-line SSH included
to issue comands and transfer files.
- Unix/Linux:
- OpenSSH
Preferred.
