Learning colors in Oneida
When I first started to acquire my language, I participated in a sort of language partnership with my grandfather Ano:ki. We traveled around the Onedia community going to three different child care centers to teach the language to preschool children. Each day we were in about twenty different classroom with children infant to 5 years old. Some of my first language lessons were about numbers, colors, animals, greeting and short phrases. I also learned to sing a song in Oneida. To the tune of "On Top of Old Smokey", "Oh my Darlin'" and "Jingle Bells", we ended each lesson!!
