Assignment One

Write a five page paper based exclusively on information you have obtained from the worldwide web. You may select any public agency except for the FBI. You may want to explore federal government sources. It contains a lot of public agency information. Or you might want to examine Quick List of Federal Agencies . Or, exploring Atifa's Homepage, created by the UA's government documents librarian, is always informative.

In your paper, provide the following information:

1. background on the agency, i.e., date of creation, purpose, etc.
2. organization structure, including the name of the executive or director of the agency
3. the agency's budget, and some of the most important items or programs for which it spends its money
4. an interesting tidbit of information that you want to share with me about the public agency
5. a brief evaluation of the quality and veracity of the information that you were able to find on the WWW
6. a list of the Web sites you used

Paper format. The paper must be typed on 8 1/2" by 11" white paper, double-spaced, with one inch margins, and page numbers. Use an essay format, i.e., an introduction, the body of the paper, and a conclusion.

Paper grade. The paper will be graded as follows: 80% on content, 20% on organization, and 20% on spelling and grammar. The paper is due at the end of class on February 7.
