Pay Your 1999 Dues and Preregister...
Mailed with this Newsletter was the combined Dues/Preregistration
Form. The Form is also available here on the web site. (Click
here to go to the Preregistration/Dues form.) If you
aren't able to come to Ojai use this form to renew your membership for
1999. Send the completed form, with payment, to the WRSA office. Pay before
February 1, 1999 and save $15 on combined meeting registration fee/dues
(or $5 on dues only for those unable to make it to Ojai).
Remember, it's a requirement that all persons attending the conference
whose names appear on the Meeting Program be dues-paid 1999 members as
well as paid registrants. WRSA membership remains a bargain. Members will
receive four 1999 issues of The Annals of Regional Science (published
by Springer-Verlag), three issues of the informative WRSA Newsletter,
a copy of the WRSA Membership Directory and informational mailings
about our 2000 conference.
Please note also the resort's policies about cancellations and check-in
time. Rooms in our block will be held until January 19, although they could
all fill earlier. After January 19, reservations will be honored on a "space-available"
basis.
From LAX take Interstate 405 (The San Diego Freeway) north to the 101 (Ventura) Freeway. Stay on the 101 to Ventura. Take the California Highway 33 Exit. Follow 33 north (inland) approximately 12 miles to Highway 150 at Mira Monte. Ojai is just a few miles beyond Mira Monte. You'll see the golf course on your right as you enter town. Take Country Club Road to the Inn's parking lot. Driving time from LAX depends heavily on traffic conditions! Allow at least and hour and a half, or, maybe better, two?
From Santa Barbara find your way to Highway
150 and follow it over hill and dale (a pretty drive!) to Ojai.
Each WRSA paper-session breakout room is equipped with an overhead projector. Extra blank transparencies and markers will be available at the Registration Desk. Slide projectors and other A/V equipment are NOT provided. If you wish to use anything other than the overhead projector, it is your responsibility to make arrangements with the hotel and to pay their charges–which are usually quite steep! Authors are asked to bring a minimum of 10-15 copies of their paper for distribution at the session. A box with the WRSA's file copies of papers will be placed at the Registration Desk for previewing, but the availability of any particular paper cannot be guaranteed.
Check the Web Site...
Updated versions of the Preliminary Program will be posted periodically
on the Association's web site: http://geog.arizona.edu/wrsa. (Click
here to go to the Preliminary Program.) Check to see
if changes have occurred in your assignments or other sessions.
Packing for Ojai...
Rain or some fairly cool weather are always possibilities in late-February,
though hopefully the winter rainy season will have pretty much ended by
our conference dates. But plan accordingly!
Arrival at the Ojai Valley
Inn and Spa...
Plan to arrive early Sunday, February 21, so you will have time to
get settled in at the Inn and to explore around a bit before the opening
festivities on Sunday afternoon, February 21. Registration will begin at
2:00 PM on Sunday, 2/21, and continue until 6:00 PM, resuming at 8:00 AM
on Monday, 2/22. The opening session and welcoming reception begin at 4:00
PM on Sunday. Please preregister to speed conference check-in.
