This month-long institute will provide you with a deeper understanding of the fields of environmental history and borderlands history through a distinctive, hands-on summer program that will include an extended 15-day field study tour through the arid lands and historical landscapes of Arizona, New Mexico, and Sonora, Mexico. Both in the classroom and in the field, scholars from the cutting edges of these two fields will offer participants insights and methods for reading the historical landscape in a variety of rural, urban, “wild” and industrial settings, and for thinking about both cultural and environmental history in a broader bi-national context.
