Jake Harwood (Ph.D., University of California, Santa Barbara) is Professor of
Communication at the University of Arizona. His research focuses on music and
communication and intergroup communication processes. He is interested in the
ways in which cognitive (e.g., stereotypes) and societal (e.g., mass media)
representations of social groups (particularly age groups) relate to
communication processes. His research draws on theories of social identity,
intergroup behavior, and communication accommodation. He recently published Communication
and Music. His recent journal publications have appeared in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin,
Human Communication Research and the Communication Research. He is book
review editor for the Journal of
Language and Social Psychology.
